Wedding Dresses
There are a few sure things in life. Notable events are: we are born; we live; we die.
For women, add another, we buy a dress in which to get married.
When Mom and Pop were (much) younger, there was not much choice regarding what was considered suitable attire for a young woman about to enter a state of blissful permanent matrimony.
The choices were a white dress, a white dress or a white dress. All that changed were the style and quantity of embellishment evident on the dress. Of course, because Mom and Pop still used to finance the wedding effort, the young lady was almost morally obliged to go with whatever Mom thought was best.
Now, however, things have changed. Wedding dresses have grown up with the little girls who would daydream for hours about their Big Day. Due to the fact that nowadays most affianced couples carry the cost burden of the nuptial celebrations, the bride to be is more at liberty to select any one of the several wedding dresses she dreamt of twenty years ago.
Due to the importance that is attached to weddings, it still is, and will always remain the main event in many couples’ lives. This factor does go a long way to ensuring that traditions do not get lost or passed up on. The basic dress designs will always be there and possibly the very first thing a potential bride should get clarity on is the style of dress to be worn. She will be able to select from ball gown, silhouette, A-line, sheath, and mermaid.
Knowing which style will best suit her body shape will help further preparations for the Big Day, and will also help her decide on exactly how the dress should look.
Every city in every country has at least one store that rents out wedding dresses. If this is the route the bride decides to take, so be it, nobody has the right to judge, it may be for financial reasons, or just persona; preference. It may also be that the dress she wants is the one at the rental outlet.
There are two other options that can be exercised to obtain the gown in which the marriage ceremony will take place. The first option is to buy one off the shelf. Enormous varieties of bridal gowns are available off the shelf, and there is no reason on earth that a dress needs to look like a dress that was made beforehand and left to languish in a store until the right buyer came along. Take your purchase to a friendly neighbourhood seamstress, and let her assist you in getting that dress to fit you perfectly. Once that wrinkle in the waist and the oversized bust have been taken care of, create a few fancies to further proclaim, “This dress is ME!”
Naturally, there are those amongst us who are able to afford exactly what they want. These young ladies will take their now smudged wax crayon dream to a couturier that specialises in not only designing dresses, but also has the expertise to create them. These professionals will create a dress that reflects the bride’s earliest desires, and in so doing, unleash the awesome power and magic of the realisation of a young girls’ dream.
Whichever route you take, it will be the route that is best for you. You cannot do more, or better than your best. It’s your day, your magic, your moment, so experience it, and live it, that the memories never fade for you. If ever you feel the memory fade, take out your photographs, or even your dress, and once again capture your magic, and re-capture that other certainty in life that is so unique to women: A wedding dress.
