Chances are if you are planning your wedding, you have a very clear idea of how you would like to appear on your special day. Many young brides have a detailed picture of how their bridal gowns will look. Women all over the world have been planning for this day their entire lives - right down to the tiniest crystal bead.
Much has been said about these brides with a vision. The bad rap of the "bridezillas" as well as a fractured economy has morphed a new species of the young Soon To Be Wed. Enter Alternative Bridal. Women are looking for alternative bridal wear geared towards unique lifestyles. Whether her style is Vintage, Sport, Classic or Boho, today's bride is looking for something a little more "indie".
While many will continue with traditional styles of white silk and lace, others are splintering off into lifestyle choices. Destination weddings are very popular, and wedding parties tend to adopt the local style as their fashion choice. To be married barefoot on the beach in Hawaii or in New York's Central Park are two common wedding choices. New traditions are being made and a vast number of alternatives are out there to give uniqueness to today's bridal gowns.
Most new brides will have custom bridal gowns made for them after purchasing fine fabrics and trims. A growing number of shoppers purchase basic off-the-rack gowns and embellish and alter them in some original way. Interracial and interdenominational weddings can be a fun and eclectic combination. All ethnic elements come together in one cross-cultural union displaying traditional customs and dress. Yes indeed, times are changing for today's bride. The need to adapt to combined cultural lifestyles is the new norm. Urban or Country? Goth or Punk? Church or Garden? There are many choices to make for a young bride and her dress is just the beginning.
