Chiffon Dresses

Chiffon is a lightweight fabric; it’s name origin from French word that means "cloth". Chiffon can be produced by cotton, silk or manufactured fibers as nylon and polyester. High twisting of the yarns produce fine net that gives see-through properties and some stretch and slightly rough feel

In the beginning silk clothes were exclusively to use only by emperor and his family and than slowly other classes wearied silk. Silk attracted people from the other countries of the ancient world. Silk Road connected east and west since time of Emperor Zhang Qian - 138 BC. But the trade started even in the earliest times. Egyptian mummy of the women, with silk was dated 1070 BC.  

History mentioned that Silk was given as a treasure gift by Chinese emperor to the leaders in Persia and Mesopotamia in 200 BC. In the Roman Empire Silk first time was mentioned near 50 BC, after they saw Persian troops wearing silk and started to trade silk from China. It was very pricey in the Roman Empire. Noble and rich Romans could wear silk because the price of the best kind of Chinese silk was comparable within the gold and 1-year salary of one solder.  First country, which produced silk, was Korea in around 200BC, than in India and modern Haitian. They added they own techniques and patterns.  

By the legend Silk Goddess-Lady Hsi-Ling-Shih invented the loom and reared silkworm. Silk production was woman duty, starting in the spring. The more recent archaeological finds in China dates to the time 6000-7000 years ago.  

Delicate chiffon dresses are comfortable for the body. They give more freedom for the bride, and she can fully enjoy her best day. Even if the chiffon dress is multilayer and volume, with dimensions, it’s still stay feather-light. At the same time it’s the strong fabric.  

Most modern chiffon dresses are made by polyester and has most of the visible qualities of the silk. Budget friendly and easier caring poly-chiffon became very popular after 1950s. 

There are several kinds of chiffon. Crepe chiffon - crepe-georgette is made as chiffon but not so soft and thin. Pleated chiffon is gathered into crinkly pleats. Crinkled chiffon is usually used in fashion design, for party dresses.
